Kobus graduated from the Rand Afrikaans University during 1985 obtaining the legal degree B Proc. He commenced his career as legal advisor in a semi-state statutory body in charge of administering Local Authority land issues as well as supplying basic services to residential and commercial areas under its control. During this period he gained extensive experience in the field of Local Authority regulations and statutory requirements for urban land use.

Was admitted as an Attorney in 1992 and a Conveyancer in 2000. Kobus operated in private practice for the past eleven years specializing in the drafting of land availability agreements, identifying and acquiring land for commercial and/or urban development, negotiating and drafting long term lease agreements and all other property related legal and administrative aspects.
